Who Gives A Fish Forums

I've been searching for a tall plant to fill out the back of my betta tank, and I'm hoping someone can suggest a few options. The lighting in the tank is pretty low, so I need a plant that can handle that. I don't use CO2, but I do add some fertilizer to help things along. Any ideas on a plant that would work well in these conditions?

Consider Java Moss or Anubias - both are low-light tolerant. Anacharis is another option, it'll grow quite tall with proper care, and can thrive without CO2.

Another option is Hygrophila polysperma or the more compact h.siamensis 53B.

I've had anacharis in that tank before, and it did surprisingly well for a bit. Then, out of nowhere, it just died off on me. Not really sure what happened - one day it was thriving, the next it was gone.

I'll definitely look into that one, thanks for the suggestion. Hopefully my LFS will have it in stock.

Did you adjust the temp recently? That might've caused the Anacharis to suddenly die off. Zostera Sword is another option that's pretty hardy and can thrive in low-light conditions.

I'd recommend Water Wisteria, also known as Hygrophila Difformis.

Ludwigias can handle low light, might be worth a shot.

I'm still not sure what went wrong with the anacharis. I did raise the temperature at some point, but I think that was after the anacharis had already started dying off - my betta had come down with velvet, so I had to adjust the temp to help clear that up. I'll definitely look into the Zorchzon Sword, though - I can just imagine my betta claiming it as his own little resting spot.
