I just got my hands on a pretty rough-looking Borneo fern (trichomanes javanicum). It's on its last legs, to be honest. I'm looking for some advice on how to nurse it back to health. I know it's not a fully aquatic plant, but I'm hoping with the right care, I can get it thriving again.

Given its condition, I suspect it was previously grown submerged, and you've fortunately rescued it. As you're aware, it's not fully aquatic, and I'm still surprised by how often terrestrial and semi-aquatic plants are mislabeled as aquatic, despite the wealth of knowledge shared online and in books. To provide a suitable environment, I'd recommend using an empty aquarium with a sphagnum/sand substrate, and placing it in a spot with indirect sunlight to create a humid microclimate for your Borneo fern.

You can also grow it on top of your tank if you've got a humid environment and a moss bed set up.

I'm really fond of this idea, but unfortunately, my area isn't humid. Would regular misting do the trick, or is that not enough to replicate the right environment for my Borneo fern?
