Is my betta injured?

I just brought home a new Betta and I'm a bit concerned about his fins - they look a little beat up. Not super experienced with bettas, so I'm not sure if that's normal or not.

Looks like fin rot to me. What size tank is he in, and did you cycle it before adding him? What are your parameters - ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH?

He's in a 1.5 gallon tank. We used water conditioner when adding water, but I'm not sure about the parameters - we didn't test them.

I'd recommend doing daily water changes for a bit. Drain most of it out and leave just a little for your betta, then top it back up with dechlorinated water.

I'm curious, do you have a filter in that 1.5 gallon tank?

We do have a filter in the tank, but it's currently out for cleaning and a cartridge swap.
