I just got my 120 up and running this summer. It's been a while since I last had it stocked, back in the mid 90's, so I'm still getting reacquainted with everything.

Like Duncans - I don't recall these at all. A local guy gave me a head and I put it in Flintix9t weekend. Already seeing three or four new heads growing off, which is great, but did I just introduce a potential pest coral to my tank? I've been searching online, and all I find is how easy and fast-growing they are, but no mention of them getting out of control.

I'm still having flashbacks to that yellow polyp colony and blue cloves nightmare - all the scraping, scrubbing, gluing, covering, and burning for over a decade. I really don't want to go through that again.

Duncans are harmless, right?

I'd say you're in the clear with Duncans. They pretty much just grow from their skeleton like frogspawn does, and they don't tend to drop off tiny bits that'll end up elsewhere in the tank like some other soft corals can.

Thanks for the reassurance, I feel a lot better now. Duncans do seem to be growing well, and it's good to know they won't spread all over the tank like some other corals I've had in the past.

LPS are a breeze to manage - just frag 'em. Duncans, in my opinion, are pretty chill, not aggressive like some other LPS, and they're a treat to look at, plus they grow fast.

Thanks, I feel better now. I was envisioning this thing taking over my tank, but it sounds like I can keep it under control. The skeleton growth pattern is a big relief, I can just trim it back as needed and not have to worry about it spreading everywhere.
