Do betta fish need lights during breeding

I've seen people keeping bettas in those small, covered plastic pots. They only take the cover off after 2 days. I'm wondering, do bettas breed in the dark or can they actually see in the dark?

I'm pretty sure bettas can see a bit in the dark, similar to how we can, but I think they'd definitely prefer some light.

Bettas don't have great eyesight in low light, and they're basically blind in complete darkness. Putting them in total darkness for 2 days doesn't make sense. They do need some darkness for sleeping, but they should have light during the day.
