setting up a nano coral tank

I'm thinking about setting up a nano coral tank, maybe around 10 gallons. What's the best way to start? I've heard mixed things about lighting and flow for such a small setup.

For a 10-gallon nano, you'll want to focus on low-light corals like Zoanthids or Mushrooms. A simple LED light like the AI Prime should work, and a small wavemaker like the Nero 3 can provide enough flow. Just keep your water params stable, especially salinity and temp.

I agree with flamen. Also, don't forget about nutrient control. A small skimmer or frequent water changes will help keep nitrates in check.

Yo, why not just go for a pico tank? Like 5 gallons, super easy to manage. Throw in some GSP and call it a day. Less water changes, less hassle. Just my two cents.

I've had success with a 10-gallon nano using a Kessil A80 light and a Hydor pump. The key is consistency. Test your water weekly, and don't overfeed. Also, start with hardy corals like Xenia or Green Star Polyps before moving to more sensitive species.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'll probably start with Zoanthids and a simple LED setup. Any recommendations for salt mix? I've heard Red Sea Coral Pro is good.

Red Sea Coral Pro is solid, but it's a bit pricey. Instant Ocean Reef Crystals is a cheaper alternative that works just as well for most nano tanks. Just make sure to mix it thoroughly and check salinity before adding it to the tank.

I've used both Red Sea and Instant Ocean, and they're both fine. The bigger thing is consistency. Stick with one brand and mix it the same way every time. Sudden changes in salt mix can stress your corals.

Honestly, just grab whatever's on sale. Corals don't care as long as the salt's mixed right. Save your cash for the fun stuff, like more corals.

While I get the sentiment, I'd still recommend sticking with a reputable brand. Cheap salt can sometimes have inconsistent levels of trace elements, which can cause issues down the line.
