Preparing for the big fish move

I'm moving my 75 gallon tank next week and need advice on minimizing stress for my Discus. They're about 2 years old, currently in a planted tank with sand substrate and a Fluval FX4. Water params are stable, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate. Should I fast them before the move?

Moving tanks is always a sketchy vibe, but you got this! I'd say fast them for 24 hours before. Less poop in the bags, less mess to deal with. Also, keep the water from the old tank to fill the new one halfway. Helps with the transition.

Agree with fasting. Also, double-bag them with pure oxygen if you can. Discus are sensitive to pH swings, so match the new tank's water to the old one as close as possible. What's your current pH and temp?

yo, don't forget to acclimate slow as molasses. drip method for the win. and keep the lights off for a day after, let 'em chill.

I've moved my tank twice. The first time was a disaster because I rushed it. Second time, I took it slow like everyone's saying, and it went smooth. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips, everyone. Current pH is 6.8, temp at 84°F. I'll definitely match the new tank to these params and use the drip method.

That's perfect. Also, consider adding a bit of stress coat to the bags. Helps with slime coat protection.

And don't forget to label the bags! Last time I moved, I mixed up my Discus and Angelfish. Total chaos for a minute there.

lol, that's a mood. gotta keep 'em sorted. also, pack the filter media in tank water to keep the bacteria alive. no one wants to cycle again.

Absolutely. I lost my cycle once and it was a nightmare. Took weeks to stabilize.
