I'm setting up a 30 gallon tropical tank and considering a Fluval 307. Anyone have experience with this filter for a similar setup? I've heard mixed reviews about the flow rate.

The Fluval 307 is a solid choice for a 30 gallon. I've used it in my 29 gallon with Angelfish and it handles the bioload well. The flow is adjustable, so you can tweak it if it's too strong for your fish. Just make sure to rinse the media monthly to keep it running smoothly.

I agree with cyanite. The 307 is reliable. I've had mine for over a year now, and it's been quiet and efficient. Just watch out for the intake tube, it can suck in smaller fish if you're not careful.

Yep, the 307 is a beast. I've got one on my 40 gallon and it's been chugging along without a hitch. The flow's a bit much for my Betta, so I had to baffle it with a sponge. Works like a charm now.

If you're worried about flow, the Fluval 207 might be a better fit. It's less powerful but still adequate for a 30 gallon. I've used both, and the 207 is gentler for sensitive species like Gouramis.

That's a good point. The 207 is also easier to maintain since it's smaller. Less media to rinse, which is a plus if you're lazy like me.

I've got the 307 on my 30 gallon planted tank, and it's been awesome. The flow is perfect for my Tetras and Corys. Just make sure you prime it properly the first time, or it'll give you a headache.

How often do you guys clean the filter media? I've heard conflicting advice about whether to rinse it in tank water or tap.

Always use tank water. Tap water can kill the beneficial bacteria. I rinse mine every 4-6 weeks, depending on how dirty it looks.

I'm kinda new to this, but I've got the 307 too. It's been running for a few months now, and I've had no issues. The flow's a bit strong, but my fish seem to like it. They're always playing in the current.
