best pH for soft corals

I've been keeping soft corals for a few months now, but I'm not sure what pH range they thrive in. My tank's sitting at 8.0, but I've heard mixed things. Anyone got experience with this?

Soft corals generally do well in a pH range of 8.1 to 8.4. Stability is key though, so avoid big swings. What's your alkalinity at? That'll affect how stable your pH stays.

I keep mine at 8.2, and they're happy as clams. But yeah, like Eastfork said, stability's the name of the game. Gotta watch those alk levels too, or things get sketchy real quick.

Exactly right. I'd also check your magnesium levels, as they play a role in maintaining pH stability. Aim for 1250–1350 ppm.

Mine's at 8.3, and they're chill. But if your tank's new, don't stress too much. Just keep it steady, and they'll adapt.

I've had tanks at 8.0 and 8.4, and honestly, the corals didn't care much as long as it didn't swing. But if you're gonna tweak it, go slow. Rapid changes freak 'em out.

Aim for 8.2–8.3. That's the sweet spot for most soft corals. Also, make sure your lighting and flow are on point, or pH won't matter much.

My tank's at 8.1, and everything's groovy. But I've got a buddy who runs his at 8.5, and his corals are fine too. Guess they're not too picky as long as you don't mess with 'em too much.

Agreed. Lighting and flow are just as crucial. What's your current setup, focus?

I'd stick with 8.2. It's what most reefers recommend, and it's worked for me. Just don't chase numbers too hard, or you'll drive yourself nuts.
