Gonna set up a new tank for my betta and need advice on heaters. What's the best wattage for a 5 gallon? Also, any brands y'all trust?

For a 5 gallon, a 25-50 watt heater should do the trick. I've had good luck with the Aqueon Pro and Eheim Jager. Just make sure it's adjustable, so you can keep the temp steady around 78-80°F.

Yep, agree with vimster. Also, avoid the cheap ones from Amazon, they're sketchy and can fail. I learned that the hard way.

I've been using a 50 watt in my 5 gallon for months now. Works great, but make sure you get one with a guard so your fish doesn't burn itself. Mine's a bit of a curious swimmer.

What about those mini heaters? Saw some on sale but not sure if they're reliable. My betta's in a 3 gallon, so space is tight.

Mini heaters can be hit or miss. I'd stick with the trusted brands vimster mentioned, even if they're a bit bulkier. Better safe than sorry.

Anyone have experience with the Fluval M series? Heard mixed reviews but it's on sale at my local store.

I've got the Fluval M50 in my 5 gallon. It's been solid for about a year now. No complaints, but it's a bit pricey.

Make sure you're checking the temp with a separate thermometer too. Heaters can be off by a few degrees, and that's not great for your fish.

Y'all think a 10 watt would cut it for a 3 gallon? Trying to save some cash.
