I'm really interested in getting shelldwellers for my desktop tank, but I'm unsure about the minimum tank size I'd need for a pair.
I'd like to keep the tank as small as possible, considering it's going to be on my desk.
What's the smallest tank size I could use for a pair of Neolamprogus multifasciatus while still being able to keep up with regular fry removal?

The tank's footprint is key here. More floor space is always better, and to be honest, the bigger the tank, the better it is for these fish. What's the available space on your desk?

I personally wouldn't keep a pair in anything less than a 5-gallon tank with a good footprint, but even then, I think 10 gallons is the way to go. This size tank will give the fry enough room to grow before you rehome them.

A 7.5 gallon tank with 30cm by 35 cm surface area - I'm thinking that's a bit of a tight squeeze for a pair of shelldwellers. I mean, I get the footprint's somewhat decent, but I'm still worried about the overall space. Would they really thrive in that setup, or would I just be setting myself up for trouble?

I'd say yes, a 7.5 gallon with that surface area should work, just ensure you have a male and female pair, not two males.
