I'm setting up a new 20 gallon tank and trying to understand cycling better. How long does it usually take for ammonia to drop to zero? I've been using Seachem Stability but not sure if it's working.

Cycling can take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks, depending on your setup. Have you tested for nitrites yet? They usually show up after ammonia starts dropping. What's your current ammonia level?

Yo, cycling's a pain but gotta chill. Stability's decent but it's gonna take time. My 10 gallon took like a month, no cap. Just keep testing, don't rush it.

Yeah, rushing it's sketchy. I messed up my first tank by adding fish too soon. Lost a couple tetras. Patience is key.

I've found adding live plants helps speed things up. Java Fern and Anubias are great for beginners. They absorb some of the ammonia and nitrates. What's your lighting situation like?

Plants def help, but if you're gonna add fish soon, gotta watch the bioload. My betta's tank cycled faster with some floating plants. Duckweed's a beast for soaking up nitrates.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'll test for nitrites tomorrow and maybe grab some plants. Appreciate the help!

No prob. Just remember, cycling's a marathon, not a sprint. Keep us posted on your progress.

For real, don't stress it. My first tank was a mess but now it's chill. You'll get there.
