Are female peacock gudgeons (tateurndina ocellicauda) naturally aggressive?

I've noticed my girls will occasionally have a go at each other, flare up and maybe give a little chase - but it's pretty rare. Usually, it's just a flare and a short follow. I'm finding it a bit odd, to be honest. Do you think they're trying to figure out the pecking order now that they're all new to each other?

Females are just as protective of their turf as males, and they don't take kindly to competition either.

I've had my fish for years now, and in my experience, this behavior is more about impressing the other fish, regardless of sex. It's not necessarily about competition or hierarchy. However, I have noticed that in smaller environments, they can become more territorial.
