can discus live with rasboras?

Post by Goldie »

I've got a 75-gallon tank with six Discus and was thinking of adding some Harlequin Rasboras. My water's at 84°F, pH 6.5, and I do 30% changes twice a week. Anyone tried this combo before? Worried about the Rasboras handling the heat.

I've kept Discus with Rasboras for years! My tank's at 82°F, and the Rasboras are totally fine. Just make sure they're well-fed—mine love frozen bloodworms. Also, keep the tank heavily planted so the Rasboras have hiding spots.

Temperature is key here. Rasboras can tolerate higher temps, but stability matters more. My Discus are in a 90-gallon with a canister filter, and the Rasboras thrive as long as the water's clean. Test your nitrates weekly—they're sensitive to spikes.

Yep, it's doable! My Rasboras chill with my Discus like they're besties. Just watch for aggression during feeding time. I use floating plants to break sightlines, and it keeps the vibe peaceful. Also, gotta say, the contrast in colors is fire.

I'd be careful. Rasboras are smaller and might get bullied if your Discus are territorial. Mine are in a 55-gallon, and the Rasboras sometimes get chased. Maybe start with a small group and see how they vibe?

Totally agree with Mango! My Rasboras and Discus get along great. I've got a sand substrate and driftwood, which helps mimic their natural habitat. Just keep an eye on the Rasboras during water changes—they're skittish.

From my experience, Rasboras are hardy enough for a Discus tank. My setup's similar to yours—84°F, soft water. The key is acclimating them slowly. I drip-acclimated mine over two hours, and they settled right in.

Sounds sketchy to me. My Discus are kinda aggressive, and the Rasboras might get stressed. Maybe try a smaller tank first to test the waters? Or go with bigger tankmates like Cardinals.

I've seen it work, but it depends on your Discus' temperament. Mine are pretty chill, so the Rasboras are fine. Just make sure the tank's not overcrowded—my rule is one inch of fish per gallon, max.

Thanks for the tip! I'll grab some more plants and try a small group of Rasboras first.
