I picked up this African cichlid today, thinking it was a female kenyi at first, but after doing some research at home, I found out that all kenyi are born blue and the males develop yellow coloration with darker vertical bars as they mature. My fish is showing some yellow on its fins, which has got me wondering - could this be a male? I've got two females already, so a male would be a great addition to the group.

My seveflake was blue to start with, then turned yellow, so I think it's quite possible you've got a male on your hands, especially with the yellow showing on the fins.

He's about 2 inches. I've read that they typically reach their adult colors around the 4-inch mark, is that right?
