is ro water really not nice?

hi there, just need some info on this...
i get RO water from my parents - our tap water has a pretty high 4.0 nitrite reading, but after the Reverse osmosis it drops to 0.1. my question is, is that 0.1 reading ok for my fish and inverts?
also, i got a 25 litre can of fresh spring water from a nearby farm and it tests at 0 for nitrites - is that a better option to use?
my tank's nitrite level is 0.1 and my ammonia is also 0.1, the booklet says that's fine for a tank with 27 degrees and a ph of 8.5, but i'm not so sure - i thought both should be 0? with my test kit, 0 should mean the test turns out completely white... but my nitrite test is showing a really faint pink colour, which i think means it's not completely nitrite-free...
any help would be great, thanks
