breeding and caring for cichlids

I'm thinking of getting a red zebra cichlid and an auratus cichlid, possibly for mating purposes, and I was wondering if it's even feasible. Assuming they're compatible, I need a reliable method for sexing them as I'm having trouble finding accurate information - I'd like to get it right about 90% of the time.

I've never had any experience with these particular cichlids. I'd consider starting with severums though - they're really docile and look great. Lots of colors to choose from and they're nice fish overall.

yeah i was thinking of trying them out but i've had my heart set on the red zebra and auratus for a while now, severums just aren't what i'm looking for, i've heard they're pretty easy to breed and sex though, so maybe i'll look into them in the future

Yeah they're a pretty big cichlid but honestly they're super chill, not aggressive at all. Look up severum and you'll see what I mean - tons of different varieties, really cool fish.
