Lowering aquarium pH

What's the best way to lower pH in a freshwater tank without stressing the fish? My tap water is around 8.0, but my Tetras and Corydoras prefer it closer to 7.0. I've tried driftwood, but it's not cutting it.

Driftwood alone might not be enough if your water's buffering capacity is high. Try adding peat moss to your filter or using RO water mixed with tap. Test KH first, though, because if it's too low, pH can swing dangerously.

Yo, I feel ya. My tap's sketchy too. Peat pellets in a mesh bag worked for me, but it's kinda messy. Also, almond leaves give the tank a cool blackwater vibe, and the fish dig it.

Almond leaves are great, but they release tannins slowly. If you need faster results, dilute with distilled water during changes. Just don't overdo it, or you'll shock the biofilter.

Have you tested your KH? High carbonate hardness can resist pH changes. If it's above 6 dKH, you'll need to address that first. Peat and RO are good suggestions, but stability is key.

Thanks for the tips, everyone. I'll test KH and try peat moss. Appreciate the help!

I've had luck with CO2 injection. It lowers pH naturally and helps plants, but it's a bit pricey. Just watch out for sudden drops, or your fish might freak.

Ngl, I just buy bottled water for my betta. Tap's too much hassle. Prob not practical for big tanks tho.

Bottled water can work, but it's inconsistent. Some brands add minerals, which might not help. Always check the label.

I'd stick with peat and almond leaves. Slow and steady wins the race. Sudden changes are bad news.
