I've got a 75-gallon planted tank with six Discus, all around 4 inches. The plants are struggling, especially the Amazon swords and java ferns. I'm using a Fluval Plant 3.0 light, dosing Seachem Flourish twice a week, and doing 30% water changes every three days. Substrate is Eco-Complete. Any tips to get the plants thriving without messing with the Discus?

Amazon swords are heavy root feeders, so you might need root tabs if you're not already using them. Eco-Complete is decent but can deplete over time. Also, check your lighting schedule, 8-10 hours max to avoid algae. Discus prefer dimmer light, so maybe adjust the intensity if they seem stressed.

Root tabs are a game-changer, but Excel can be harsh on sensitive plants like java fern. Spot treat algae instead of dosing the whole tank.

What's your water temp? Discus like it hot, but some plants melt above 84°F. If you're running at 86°F, maybe drop it to 84°F and see if the java ferns perk up. Also, how's your CO2? Low-tech tanks can still benefit from a liquid carbon supplement.

I've had luck with anubias and crypts in my Discus tank. They're low-light champs and don't mind the warmth. Attach the anubias to driftwood instead of burying the rhizome. And yeah, root tabs for the swords, 100%.

Bro, my Discus tank is packed with valisneria and they're thriving. Grows like a weed and the fish love swimming through it. Just gotta keep up with trimming so it doesn't take over. Also, ditch the Flourish, it's overkill for low-tech.

Java fern melt is often from inconsistent water params. Discus tanks need stability, so if you're doing frequent water changes, make sure the new water matches temp and pH closely. Also, check for potassium deficiency if the leaves are yellowing.

My plants were dying till I switched to LED lights. Now they're all good. Maybe your light's too weak or too strong? Also, try adding some floating plants to shade the Discus a bit.
