Just got back from work today and rushed to check on my tank. Ken and Deirdre (corrie) were acting really strangely, and now I know why - Deirdre's got a mouth full of tiny eggs! My first babies, I'm over the moon as I've only had them for a short while.

Tank's due for a clean and water change at the weekend, so I'm wondering what you all suggest. Should I catch Deirdre and put her in a breeding net to keep the fry safe? I'd love to keep them alive if possible.

I wouldn't bother catching her just yet, if they've only just spawned she'll be holding for around 3 weeks. If you've got a spare tank that'd be ideal, give her some peace and quiet, but if not just leave her where she is for now. First timers usually don't know what they're doing, they'll either spit them out prematurely or swallow them, it's pretty common. Most get it right second time round, so just keep an eye on her for now.

Well, it's been three weeks and Deirdre finally spat out the eggs, but unfortunately, she panicked and ate the lot. Fingers crossed for better luck next time. Ken's still following her everywhere, so I'm guessing it won't be long before we're expecting again.

I was so caught up in your exciting news about Deirdre and the eggs, I completely missed the date of your post.

No worries, I'm glad I could update you. Deirdre's holding again, and one of my yellow labs is also expecting, so I'm just leaving them to it for now. There are plenty of hiding spots, so I'm just keeping an eye on them from a distance.
