We've got a 10-gallon tank set up for fry, with about 20 in there. The lady's got a new 20-gallon tank she wants to use for that purpose, so we'll be moving the current fry into it once it's ready.
I'm thinking of using the 10-gallon for Celestial Danios - thinking 10 might be a good number. Would adding another small school of nano fish be too much for the tank?

Those Celestial Danios are quite timid and tiny, so I'd actually consider increasing their numbers rather than adding another species. 16 or 18 would be a more suitable number for a 10-gallon tank, as they have a minimal bio load. They thrive in heavily planted environments, so having a variety of plants on hand would be beneficial. With more of them, they'll be more interactive and seem more natural, and their shyness will be less noticeable.

Appreciate the advice, we're fine with a single species if that's what's best for the fish. I'm thinking about the male to female ratio, would 3:1 be a good balance for Celestial Danios?

@Avalon is spot on. I agree, doubling the numbers and sticking to a single species is the way to go. You'll also want to load up on plants to create a comfortable environment for them.

The 3:1 ratio seems about right. Those males are quite the show-offs when it comes to vying for the females' attention.

Species tank it is. We fell for these little guys at the local pet store last week - they were a real showstopper. Busy as can be, zipping about, and the males had this gorgeous blue color that really caught our eye.
