identifying my betta fish

Hey everyone, I just got a new Betta and I'm trying to figure out what type he is. His head colouration seems a bit off to me, it's way paler than the rest of his body. Is this something I should be worried about? I've also been staring at his eyes and I'm not sure if they're bulging too much or not. Any thoughts on this would be great.

He's absolutely stunning. Congrats on the new addition, I'm no expert on bettas, but I just had to say he's a beauty.

Your betta is a betta splendens, by the way. The coloring on his head might be normal, considering these fish can have pretty varied coloration. I'd recommend doing a water change and giving him a few weeks to settle in - he might color up more after that. I'm no betta expert, but I'm sure some of the regulars here can offer more insight.

I think he might be a halfmoon, though I'm more familiar with plakat and wild types myself, so I wouldn't stake my claim on it - he's definitely a stunner either way.

I've seen some wild bettas at my local fish store, and they can be pricey. I mean, I saw a pair for $129, and some singles are even $150 or so. They're super cute, but unfortunately, they're not the right fit for my tank setup.

I've had a few veiltail plakat varieties myself. My priciest one was from a big chain store, and he was just $25. The others were around $10-12. As for true wild types, I've never seen one in person - they're a bit out of my budget, but a person can dream, right?

I've had several veiltail plakat varieties. My most expensive plakat was from one of those big pet stores and he was only $25. The other two were around $10-12. I've never seen true wild types in person, they're more than I'd be willing to spend.

I'm not sure about the betta id, but I think the coloring on his head might be normal, it could just be settling in. I've seen some bettas with varying colors on their head and body, so it's possible. As for the eyes, I don't think they look overly bulging, but I'm no expert.

You're a genius, man. I'm just gonna say it - that's one hilarious intro for a fish ID thread.
