Re: Is it worth the investment?

I dunno, man. My 55-gallon is a pain to clean, and the fish don't seem to care either way. Maybe I just suck at this hobby, but I kinda miss my old 20-gallon. Less hassle, y'know?

Re: Keeping a breeding pair of clownfish in a 15-gallon tank

I recently made the switch from an 8 gallon to a 15 gallon, and I'm really hoping to get my clownfish to breed. I've been thinking about trying a male and female pair in a live rock 15 gallon - do you think that's doable?

Honestly, I think this is a pretty ambitious plan. Clownfish aren't ...

Re: combining a sump skimmer and refugium

Not based on personal experience, but from what I've observed, most sumps with a refugium are compartmentalized. So, the water flow goes in, hits the skimmer first, then passes through dividers that remove bubbles, followed by the refugium, more dividers, and finally the return pump that sends the ...

Re: comparison of spotted and normal manderin

Thanks for sharing that link, I'd read about someone keeping multiple mandarins but couldn't recall who. From my research, it seems females can coexist, but males tend to be aggressive towards each other.

Re: identifying the fin nipping culprit

I'm pretty sure they're true percs, but I've never managed to get a proper count of the dorsal spines. The bigger one does get a bit testy if anything gets too close to its torch, it'll swim at them aggressively, but I've never actually seen it bite. The little one, on the other hand, is tiny and ...

identifying the fin nipping culprit

I've got a bit of a mystery on my hands. Currently, my tank's stocked with:

9 Blue-green reef chromis
1 algae blenny
1 Coflake Beauty
1 Green coflake goby
1 purple firtideflow
2 perc clowns
1 spotted mandarin
1 royal gramma
2 anthias (1 male, 1 female)

Lately, I've noticed the bigger perc ...

Re: local fish stocking information

Thanks for all the suggestions, loads to look at. We saw a leopard wrasse at the LFS and it's really nice - I'm a bit concerned about them being tricky to keep fed though and their long-term survival rate.

Despite my initial reservations about chromis, Lyn fell in love with them at the LFS - she ...

Re: local fish stocking information

I'm not too keen on chromis or damsels, so I'd rather avoid those if possible. A school of ghost cardinals, on the other hand, could be really interesting. I've also read that when it comes to mixing wrasses, it's generally okay as long as you choose ones that look quite different from each other.

local fish stocking information

Our tank's a Jewel Vision 450, roughly 100g UK, paired with a 75G sump, so around 50g water volume. It's 5ft long, 2ft high, and 2-2.5ft wide at the front.

We're pretty open to ideas, just need fish that are 100% reef safe and suitable for this tank size when fully grown - no upgrades on the ...
