Re: Plants for a High-Flow Tank
Cryptocoryne Wendtii is another option. It's a slower grower, but once established, it can handle moderate to high flow. Just make sure the substrate is deep enough for the roots.

Re: can discus thrive in hard water?
Key thing is consistency. If your tap's stable, they'll adjust better than if you're constantly tweaking params. My tap's 280 ppm, pH 7.7, and I just age it for 24 hours before changes. Tank's 75 gallons, planted, with a sump. No RO, no problems.

True that. Discus are peaceable but get stressed if they can't claim a spot. I've got Tetras in mine, no drama. Just avoid fin nippers like Barbs, sketchy vibe for sure.

Re: discus tank decor for shy fish
I'd say two or three caves max, spaced out. Too many and it'll look cluttered. Also, make sure they're big enough for them to turn around in. My dudes love their personal space.

Yo, try adding more vertical structures like tall plants or stacked rocks. My crew chilled out after I threw in some Amazon Swords and a couple slate caves. Keep the lighting dim, too. They're skittish under bright lights.
