Re: Discus tank algae eater options
My Discus are around 4-5 inches. Not sure if they'd go after Amanos. I feed them 3x daily, beef heart mix in the AM, flakes at noon, frozen bloodworms at night. Nitrates stay around 10-15 with current stock.

Re: Discus tank algae eater options
Thanks for the tip. I've got pool filter sand. Do Bristlenoses stir it up too much? Also, how many would you recommend for a 75?

Discus tank algae eater options
My 75 gallon Discus tank's been getting algae on the glass and driftwood. I do weekly 50% water changes, use RO water with a TDS of 150, and have a Fluval FX6. Lighting's on for 8 hours with a Nicrew LED. Tankmates are 6 Cardinals and 10 Rummy Nose. What algae eaters won't mess with my Discus or ...

Re: discus hiding during the day
Mine did the same thing after I added a new piece of decor. Took 'em a week to adjust. Maybe your swords are too dense? Try trimming 'em back so they've got more open space. Discus like room to cruise, not just hide.

Re: can discus eat frozen bloodworms?
I don't quarantine food, but I always rinse frozen stuff in tank water before feeding. My discus are in a 55g, temp 83F, pH 6.8, with a canister filter and weekly 25% water changes. They get bloodworms maybe once every 10 days, mixed with beef heart and pellets. Anyone else notice their fish go nuts ...

Re: Discus egg fungus prevention
My pair's about 2 years old. They're in a 55 gallon with sand substrate, lots of driftwood. Spawn every 3 weeks but lose half to fungus. Gonna try the blue stuff, sounds legit.

Re: discus bullying in small groups
Had the same issue with my group. One dude was a straight-up bully. I moved him to a quarantine tank for a week, and when I put him back, he chilled out. Weird, but it worked. Tank's got sand substrate and a canister filter, if that matters.

Re: best food for vibrant discus colors
Yep, starving them for a bit works. Also, try soaking the food in garlic guard. It's like crack for Discus. My tank's got some apistos and a bunch of ember tetras. Water changes are 50% weekly, temp at 85°F. The beef heart mix is a bit messy, so be ready to siphon out the leftovers if they don't eat ...

Re: best food for vibrant discus colors
What's the deal with paprika in the mix? Never heard of that before. I've been using Tetra ColorBits, but my Discus are still kinda pale. Tank's 60 gallons, with a canister filter and some anubias. Water changes are 25% weekly, temp at 83°F. Should I switch to beef heart?
It's all about the ...

Re: best food for vibrant discus colors
I agree with Hued on the beef heart mix. It's solid. But if you're not into making your own, try Hikari Discus Bio-Gold. My fish love it, and their colors are insane. I've got a 90-gallon tank with a sponge filter and some java ferns. Water changes are 40% weekly, temp at 85°F. I also add a bit of ...
