Discus egg fungus prevention
Discus egg fungus prevention
Noticed some white fuzz on my Discus eggs last spawn. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 5 nitrate. Tank is 75 gallons, temp at 84F, sponge filter running. Anyone got tips to stop the fungus next time?
Re: Discus egg fungus prevention
Methylene blue works wonders for egg fungus. Dose it at 1 drop per gallon right after spawning. Also, make sure your pair is in a bare bottom tank, easier to clean. What's your water change routine?
Re: Discus egg fungus prevention
Thanks, Duppy. I do 30% changes every other day. Gonna try the methylene blue next spawn.
Re: Discus egg fungus prevention
Agree with Duppy on methylene blue. Also, increase aeration near the eggs. Fungus thrives in low oxygen spots. I use an air stone angled toward the eggs. How old is your pair?
Re: Discus egg fungus prevention
My pair's about 2 years old. They're in a 55 gallon with sand substrate, lots of driftwood. Spawn every 3 weeks but lose half to fungus. Gonna try the blue stuff, sounds legit.
Re: Discus egg fungus prevention
Yo, same issue here. Tried methylene blue last spawn, eggs stayed clean. Also, keep the lights low, fungus hates that. My tank's got Java ferns, no CO2, temp at 86F.
Re: Discus egg fungus prevention
Lights low? That's a new one. My tank's got LEDS on for 8 hours, maybe that's the issue. Also, what's your pH? Mine's at 6.8, soft water.
Re: Discus egg fungus prevention
Man, this thread's gold. My pair's in a 40 breeder, bare bottom, temp at 85F. Gonna grab some methylene blue tomorrow. How long do you leave the blue in?
Re: Discus egg fungus prevention
Leave it till the eggs hatch or go bad. Usually 2-3 days. Also, siphon out any unfertilized eggs ASAP, they're fungus magnets.
