Re: plants that work with rasboras

Another plant to consider is Vallisneria. It grows tall and provides great cover for rasboras. Just be ready to trim it back if it gets too wild.

Re: plants that work with rasboras

Thanks for the suggestions! Gonna grab some Anubias and Frogbit this weekend. Any tips on keeping the Frogbit from taking over the whole surface?

Just trim the roots and remove excess plants during water changes. Rasboras appreciate some open swimming space, so keep about 50% of the surface ...

Re: plants that work with rasboras

Anubias and Java Fern are solid choices. They don't need much light and rasboras seem to like the broad leaves. Just attach them to driftwood or rocks.

Re: Live plants that are safe for Bettas

If you're up for a challenge, try some stem plants like Hornwort or Water Wisteria. They grow fast and provide great cover for Tetras. Just be ready to trim often. I run a 20 gallon with these and my Tetras breed like crazy in the dense foliage.

If you're gonna try shrimp, go for Amanos. They're bigger and less likely to get eaten. Just make sure there's plenty of moss for cover.

Re: Finding a betta tankmate compromise

Pygmy corys are a solid choice, but they're bottom dwellers, so your betta might not even notice them. Just keep the substrate smooth to avoid barbel damage. What's your filtration like? Over-filtering helps with bioload.
