Totally agree. I use a cheap outlet timer and it's been a game changer. No more algae blooms from forgetting to turn the light off.

Yep, learned that the hard way. My first bowl got super cloudy from tap water top-offs. RO is the way to go.

Re: best plants for a Planted bowl

I'd throw in some floating plants like Duckweed or Salvinia. They help with algae control and give the bowl a cool, shaded look. Just be ready to thin them out regularly.

Re: Discus fry tank setup basics

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'll start with daily water changes and baby brine shrimp. Gonna order a hatchery setup today.

Discus fry tank setup basics

I'm setting up a new tank for my Discus fry and wanna make sure I don't mess it up. Got a 20-gallon with sponge filter, sand substrate, and a heater set to 84°F. How often should I do water changes, and what's the best food for them? They're about 2 weeks old.

Re: do you prefer root tabs or liquid ferts?

I mix both! Tabs for the swords and liquid for the rest. Works like a charm. My tank's a jungle now, and I barely know what I'm doing. Just winging it, honestly.

Re: discus bullying in small groups

Lol, fish drama. My Discus were like that until I switched to a bigger tank. Now they've got space to avoid each other. 125-gallon with a sump, and they're way happier. Maybe your bully just needs more room to flex.

Re: discus tank algae control methods

I've had luck with Siamese algae eaters. They're chill with discus and gobble up the algae. Just don't get the fake ones, some stores sell lookalikes that don't eat algae. Also, maybe tweak your light spectrum if you can.

live shrimps as live food

I switched from a planted tank to discus, and during the transition, I had a bunch of shrimps in the tank that just kinda stayed with the discus.
Few days in, I noticed my discus started chasing and eating the shrimps.
Now I'm wondering, is it safe to feed my discus small live shrimps?
