Re: Why is discus breathing heavy?
Might wanna test for dissolved oxygen levels. Had a similar issue once, turned out the canister filter wasn't agitating the surface enough.

discus tank gravel vs sand
I'm setting up a new 75-gallon tank for my Discus and can't decide between gravel or sand. I've heard sand is better for their natural behavior, but gravel is easier to clean. Anyone have experience with both?

Re: Discus tank decor safety tips
I've noticed my Discus prefer tanks with minimal decor. Too much clutter stresses them. A few pieces of driftwood and some plants are enough.

Re: why discus stop eating pellets?
Have you made any recent changes to the tank? New decor, filter media, or tankmates? Sometimes even small changes can stress them out and affect their appetite. Also, how's their behavior otherwise? Any signs of illness?

Re: Discus egg fungus prevention
Methylene blue is effective, but ensure proper dosage. Overdosing can harm the eggs. My setup is a 70 gallon, sponge filter, temp at 84F. Regular water changes are crucial, as mentioned earlier.

Re: Discus not growing as expected
If you're doing everything right and they're still not growing, it might be worth isolating one or two in a smaller tank with perfect conditions. Sometimes they just need a reset to kickstart growth.

Re: Discus not growing as expected
Have you checked for internal parasites? Sometimes they eat fine but don't grow because of worms. Metroplex in the food might help. Also, what's the filter type? Canister filters are best for keeping the water pristine, which is key for growth.

Re: picking healthy discus at the store
Consistency in their shape is key. A healthy Discus should have a round, symmetrical body. Avoid any with visible deformities or uneven growth. My tank's got a T5 light setup, and I've noticed better coloration since I upgraded from LED. Also, ensure the store's water params match yours to avoid ...

Re: picking healthy discus at the store
Observe their behavior with other fish. Aggression or extreme shyness can indicate stress or illness. My Discus are in a 60-gallon with a mix of tetras and corydoras, and they're chill with tankmates. The store's feeding routine matters too—ask what they're fed and how often. Sudden diet changes can ...
