Re: can discus live with shrimp?

Amano shrimp are the way to go. Mine have been living with Discus for months in a 65 gallon, temp at 82°F. The key is lots of hiding spots and a dense carpet of Dwarf Hairgrass. The shrimp come out at night when the fish are chill.

Re: discus breeding water softener

My LFS guy swears by mixing distilled with tap. 50/50 split gets my 40 gallon breeder to 6 dGH. Cheap and easy. I run a sponge filter and keep the lights low. They've spawned twice this month. What's your water change schedule like?

Re: How often to change discus tank water?

Re: Discus tank on a tight budget

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'll try the beef heart mix and up the water changes. Python's a bit pricey upfront, but if it saves time, worth it. Gonna check local groups for driftwood too.

Discus tank on a tight budget

I'm setting up a 55-gallon tank for Discus but gotta keep costs low. Got a used Fluval 307 filter, sand substrate, and a basic heater. Water's at 82°F, pH 6.8. Feeding them frozen bloodworms and flakes. Any tips to save more without skimping on their needs? Worried about the filter being enough for ...

Re: 500 Gallon project, Dreaming of keeping Discus but afraid!

I like your setup, but have you considered adding an overflow to a waste on the left side of the sump. It's where the return water enters and makes water changes super easy. You can just activate your top-up pump with a timer, and it's ...
