Thanks for all the tips, everyone. I'll set up the auto feeder with pellets, lower the temp, and do a big water change before I go. Appreciate the help!

best discus tank vacation care
I'm going on vacation for two weeks and need advice on keeping my Discus healthy while I'm gone. Tank is 75 gallons, with 6 adult Discus, a pair of German Blue Rams, and some Cardinal Tetras. I do 50% water changes twice a week, feed them frozen beef heart and pellets twice daily. Current setup has ...

Re: Discus tank bioload management
Agree with Dkade on plants. Also, check your filter media. If it's packed too tight, flow drops and nitrates spike. I run sponges plus Matrix in my FX6, spaced out. Nitrates stay below 30ppm with 8 Discus in a 90-gallon.

Re: discus fin damage recovery time
Fin damage can heal in about 2-4 weeks if water quality is pristine. Since your params are good, focus on daily 10% water changes to keep stress low. I'd also add some Indian Almond Leaves for their antibacterial properties. What's your current water change schedule?

Re: Discus tank odor problem solver
Rotten egg smell usually means hydrogen sulfide buildup in the substrate. Sand can trap debris and create anaerobic pockets. Try stirring the sand gently during water changes and maybe cut back on the beef heart, it's messy. Also, check if your filter flow is strong enough to circulate the whole ...

Re: Has anyone tried to breed Albino Platinums?
Congrats on the spawn, Rufus - quite an achievement. I've never bred albinos myself, but I do have some experience with fry struggling to attach to parents. They'd get disoriented and congregate at the top corner or on the sponge filter in my 29 ...
