Re: why my discus has red eyes?
Aw, poor thing! I've heard some strains just have red eyes naturally. But if it's sudden, maybe check for aggression? My discus got stressed when I added a new light, took weeks to chill.

Re: discus hiding during the day
Keep us posted, man. Discus can be divas, but they usually bounce back once you figure out their weird vibe.

Re: discus hiding during the day
That's rough, man. Sounds like your water's on point, so maybe it's the lighting? Bright lights can freak 'em out. Try dimming it or adding floating plants like frogbit. My discus used to hide till I switched to a softer LED. Also, check if the tetras are messing with 'em. Even peaceful fish can be ...

Re: Eheim Jager submersible depth
I've heard mixed things about this. My buddy's Jager crapped out after a few months submerged too deep. Maybe stick to halfway? Also, love your tank size, angler_09. What fish you got in there?

Re: best discus tank cleaning tools
For sand substrate, I'd recommend the Python Pro-Clean. It's gentle and doesn't suck up the sand like some other vacuums. Also, my discus seem less stressed when I clean in smaller sections rather than the whole tank at once.

Also, RO water has no buffering capacity, so it's prone to swings. Try mixing in some tap water or adding crushed coral to stabilize it. What's your ...

Re: Discus fry tank setup basics
Not a bad idea, especially if your main tank has other fish. Gives you a chance to make sure the fry are healthy before introducing them to the group.

Re: Discus fry tank setup basics
Coffee filter is a pro tip. Also, if you're feeding live food, keep an eye on uneaten shrimp. They can die and rot in the tank if not eaten fast enough.

Re: Discus fry tank setup basics
Hikari's good, but live food still beats it for growth. If you're gonna use powdered, mix it with a bit of tank water to make a paste. Fry seem to take it better that way.
