For sand substrate, I'd recommend the Python Pro-Clean. It's gentle and doesn't suck up the sand like some other vacuums. Also, my discus seem less stressed when I clean in smaller sections rather than the whole tank at once.

Driftwood can definitely mess with pH, especially if it's new. It releases tannins which lower pH over time. How long did you soak it before adding? Not a bad idea, especially if your main tank has other fish. Gives you a chance to make sure the fry are healthy before introducing them to the group.

Coffee filter is a pro tip. Also, if you're feeding live food, keep an eye on uneaten shrimp. They can die and rot in the tank if not eaten fast enough.

Hikari's good, but live food still beats it for growth. If you're gonna use powdered, mix it with a bit of tank water to make a paste. Fry seem to take it better that way.
