Re: help with kribensis

I've found it works a charm to give the kribs their own space when they start getting all lovey-dovey, then once I've got some little ones swimming about, I'll reintroduce them to the main tank. Right now, my yoyos are still tiny, so not as much of a concern, but I can imagine it'd be a different ...

Re: help with kribensis

looks pretty standard, might be having some trouble with the yoyos though - mine get a bit testy when they're defending. don't think they know to keep a safe distance, and mine are still tiny so bigger ones could be a real nuisance. love the accent by the way

Re: help with kribensis

I've never seen that behavior with my kribs, but when they're in the mood, they do this quirky little dance where they shimmy at each other. Then they start making a nest, clearing out a cave or something, and get pretty protective of it.

Re: kribensis breeding and cave management

My kribs are spawning at the moment, really love watching them, my little fishies are just the best.

Re: kribensis breeding and cave management

I did the same thing, just two rocks at the bottom and one on top, worked out pretty well for me

Re: kribensis breeding and cave management

You can find some nice flat rocks, stack them up in a cave-like structure, works a treat, just make sure they're stable, either on the bottom of the tank under the substrate or leaning against the glass, I've got a stack in my community tank, seems to do the job.

Re: kribensis breeding and cave management

I've had success with coconut shells for my kribensis spawning caves, or you can opt for the little cichlid stone caves - I've got something similar in my tank. Alternatively, a nice piece of driftwood with plenty of space underneath can work just as well.

krib updates and questions

My kribbies spawned again last night, and they're already in the fry tank with just three neptunes and a pleco. I've got a water change due, but I'm not sure if I should go ahead with it. I can avoid gravel vacs and disturbing their cave, but will that be enough? Should I just wait about 7 days, see ...

Re: Kribensis not getting along

That's one massive tank you've got there, aetherix, I mean 450 litres is more than double mine, but I think you'd be fine adding another pair, the space should be plenty for them to coexist.

Re: Kribensis not getting along

I haven't had my kribensis long enough to offer any advice on "break ups," but I'm wondering if maybe the female just isn't in the mood right now and they'll get romantic again in the future. I recently moved my pair to a separate tank with just a couple of neptunes, and they've started dancing ...
