You can use any aquarium sealant, it should be fine for the job. For example, there's a King British one available at Pets at Home - just search for aquarium sealant.

Dry sand that matches your substrate would be the best choice. The sealant acts as an adhesive, so the sand should stay on the tube indefinitely. If you're in a hurry, you could use 100% cyanoacrylate superglue, but be warned it dries very quickly, so sealant is probably the easier option.

Sealants usually take around 24 to 48 hours to cure before they're safe to put in the tank.

Thanks for that, so I don't need to rinse the sand before attaching it to the pipe, right.

Washing is always a good idea before adding anything to a tank, think it's just common sense really. I mean, you wouldn't put unwashed plants or decor in, so why not the sand? Even if it's the same as your substrate, it's still a good idea to give it a rinse. Just to be on the safe side, I'd say wash the sand before putting it on the PVC.

Thanks for the advice, I'll give the tube a go first since my kribensis are used to breeding in it. I'd rather not remove it unless I have to, and replace it with a coconut or pot. If I do end up changing it, do you think it would affect their breeding habits? Would a coconut or pot give them a better chance of having fry, since I wouldn't be able to see in and they'd feel more secure?

My kribs are spawning at the moment, really love watching them, my little fishies are just the best.
