Re: best discus tank vacation care
If you've got a trusted buddy, have 'em peek at the tank once or twice. Mine texted me pics when I was gone, which was clutch. Tank's 75 gallons, planted, with a HOB filter. No disasters yet, knock on wood.

Re: pH stability in Betta aquariums
Driftwood's gonna drop your pH, no doubt. If you're using it, maybe cut it out for a bit and see. Also, what's your substrate? Some of that fancy aqua soil can mess with params too.

Re: Discus fry growth rate issues
Thanks for the tips, y'all. Gonna try beef heart and up the water changes. There's about 20 fry in there, sponge filter only. Lights are on 10 hours. I'll report back.

Discus fry growth rate issues
My Discus fry aren't growing like they should. Got 'em about 3 weeks ago, and they're still tiny. Tank's a 40-gallon breeder, temp at 86°F, pH 6.8, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, nitrate under 10ppm. Feeding 5x a day with crushed flakes and baby brine shrimp. Water changes every other day, 30%. What's the ...

Re: discus breeding cone placement
Flow's huge. If it's too strong, they'll ignore the cone entirely. Also, check your nitrates. Mine won't spawn if it's above 10ppm, even with perfect placement. Daily 20% changes help, and I dose a bit of tannin extract to soften things up.
Yep, nitrates are sneaky like that. My tap's already ...

Re: discus breeding cone placement
Nah, middle's sketchy if your fish are jumpy. Tried it once and they kept darting around like maniacs. Put it near the back corner, kinda shaded by some fake plants. Worked way better, and they chilled out after a day. Water's gotta be soft though, like under 100 TDS.

Yo, my discus didn't spawn till I added a flat slate rock. They need a solid surface to lay eggs on. Maybe yours just ain't got the right furniture, lol.

Re: cloudy water in discus tank woes
Thanks for the tips, everyone. Tank's been running for about 8 months, so not new. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, nitrate around 10 ppm. I use CaribSea sand, rinsed it well before adding. Filter media gets rinsed every 3 months in tank water. Gonna try cutting back on food and see if ...

cloudy water in discus tank woes
My discus tank water has been cloudy for days now, and I'm not sure what's causing it. I've got a 75-gallon tank with six discus, all around 4 inches, and they're acting normal but the water looks milky. I do 30% water changes twice a week, use a Fluval FX6 filter, and feed them a mix of frozen ...

Hi rayon, can you fix the calendar, still shows 2020 ?
I wish I could, but I'm not part of the team anymore - that was back in 2014.
