Discussion about crypt and val

Post by lexico »

I've come across a few stories about crypts and vals not getting along in the same tank. I've got some basic valisneria and I'm thinking of adding some crypt spiralis. Has anyone here had issues with growing these two together?

You can grow pretty much any plants together, just make sure they're getting enough light and nutrients and they'll be fine. I've had crypts and vals in the same tank before with no issues.

One thing to keep in mind with crypts is they can be pretty finicky when it comes to their rhizome. If it gets damaged during replanting, they can start to rot. So before you plant them in the tank, just give them a quick check. You want a hard, firm rhizome with no soft or squishy bits. Those soft bits will rot and kill the plant over time.
