A backyard tub or pond setup

Post by FinAce »

I've recently got my back garden tub/pond up and running, been using it to grow a few extra plants. So far I've had some success with dwarf water lettuce, guppy grass, java moss and java fern. If you've got any other suggestions I'd love to give them a try.

I've also got a sponge filter in there and some cherry shrimp, seems to be working out pretty well so far.

I'd recommend growing plants in trays or pots, that way you can easily move them around and adjust the setup. For Vallis, those kitty litter trays with some gravel work wonders. I've also had good luck with Sword plants in 1-2 litre plastic icecream buckets, they seem to thrive in those. As for Java Moss, I just tie it to some rock or driftwood and it grows like crazy outdoors.

Tried growing in tubs like that previously, didn't quite work out for me, everything just sort of... went off, and they ended up dying. Figured something a bit closer to an actual aquarium setup might do the trick.
