different mosses

I'm back with another question.
Mosses - what's the growth rate like? I'm on the hunt for some low-maintenance options to mix things up.
There's something about moss that really catches my eye.
Any thoughts?

You can just get a bunch of moss balls, break them up and stick the pieces to decorations or driftwood. It'll spread faster that way, rather than being all bunched up in a ball.

I've had great luck with Java moss - it's super hardy and does amazingly well in low light. I picked up a decent-sized ball about 6 months ago, and although it was pretty dead in the middle, I salvaged what I could and attached it to some driftwoods in my tanks. Fast forward to now, and I've got so much of it that I'm constantly scooping up stray bits during water changes.

Here's a prime example of growth. Setup my shrimp tank about 2 months ago, now look at it.

Mosses are awesome, they grow at a moderate pace, not super fast but definitely manageable. Low tech, easy to care for, they're a great choice.

I picked up a decent-sized ball of it about six months ago and it was pretty rough in the middle, but I salvaged what I could and attached it to some driftwood in my tanks. Now I've got so much of it, I end up catching bits of it in my water changes every week.

That looks nice, Ange. I've had experience with christmas moss in my SE Asia tank, and I must say I prefer its appearance over java moss - the form is really unique. The java moss in my South America tank mostly just crept along the surface of the driftwood, rarely getting bushy and never quite reaching the height I see in some tanks. There are several other kinds readily available too, and they're all pretty nice. I'm thinking of trying a moss wall as a backdrop for my next tank.

My java moss in the South America tank mostly just creeps along the driftwood, rarely getting bushy and never as tall as some others. There are plenty of other types available too, all pretty in their own way.

I'm actually thinking of doing a moss wall in my next tank, but for now, I'm considering adding christmas moss to my current shrimp tank. I love the look of it, just need to decide where to put it - the tank's pretty heavily planted already and I don't want to disrupt everything. My plants and moss do really well without much help, but I've been using a bit of flourish here and there to give them a boost. With my full spectrum light, I think the christmas moss would really thrive.

No moss comes close to Java in terms of hardiness. Christmas moss does look amazing, but when Java is pruned on wood or rock, it takes on a similar appearance.
