I've got a plant that might interest you, since you were browsing Aqua Essentials' site. I've got a Schismatoglottis prietoi in my 30cm cube, and I think it's worth checking out. It's a slow grower, but it's done amazingly well in my tank, even with just shrimps. The photo I've attached was taken in August last year, and it's grown a lot bigger since then.
From a distance, it looks a lot like an Anubias nana, but I'm curious - do you think it's faster growing than an Anubias?

Re: best plants for small tanks
Schismatoglottis prietoi grows at a moderate pace, faster than anubias, but it doesn't keep up with the growth rate of stem plants. The leaves bear a striking resemblance to those of anubias bonzai - you can see them on the wood to the left in my photo.

I've had Schismatoglottis prietoi in my tank for a while now, and I've noticed it grows at a moderate pace, faster than anubias but slower than stem plants. The leaves are quite similar to anubias bonzai, but if you take a closer look, you can see that it grows on the substrate instead of attaching to wood, and it has a slightly lighter color tone.
