Growing and caring for dried java moss
Growing and caring for dried java moss
I used to have java moss, but it went all brown and moldy, so I ended up getting rid of it. I just found a tiny piece of it stuck to a shell, it's still green and soft. I put it in a small container with water from my betta tank today, I'm curious to see if it'll make a comeback.
Re: Growing and caring for dried java moss
It'll grow, no doubt about it. Java moss is pretty hardy, similar to other moss types - it'll just need consistent moisture to thrive. I'd expect it to take a bit of time to get established and grow out, but it should do just fine with proper care.
Re: Growing and caring for dried java moss
I'm pretty sure java moss is just like any other moss. It will die when it’s not wet and it will grow when it is. Just note it may take a long while for it to get big.
To be honest, I'm surprised you're giving it a shot. I doubted it'd grow, but okay. Ferts might be worth considering - would they do any good or harm? I keep mine in a separate container, just in case my cherries or my veggie-loving betta decide to snack on it.

Re: Growing and caring for dried java moss
I've added a pic, sorry for my betta photobombing though. Can you spot the tiny java moss piece on the shell?
Re: Growing and caring for dried java moss
Cute betta you've got there. Unfortunately, I still can't see the java moss on the shell. As I mentioned earlier, since it's super small, I'd recommend giving it time to grow and holding off on the fertilizers for now.

Thanks for the compliment, my betta's got that sweet look going on - hence the name, Candy. He's a bit of a two-faced little guy, though lol.

No I can’t see it...
As I said above, if it is super small, just give it time and no fertilizers.
Yeah, a closer pic might help, I'll try that. I'll give it time, no ferts for now. I think it'd be awesome for my future kuhlis to hang out in there.

Just wanted to say thanks for the compliment on my betta - yeah, he's a cutie, name's Candy for a reason. On the java moss, a closer pic might help, I'll give it time, hoping it'll grow into a cozy spot for my future kuhlis.
