Common fish illnesses and their symptoms
Re: Common fish illnesses and their symptoms
Another minnow's started showing symptoms, so I've taken a video, albeit in daylight and it's got some glare. I was due for a water change anyway, so I'll get that done now.
Re: Common fish illnesses and their symptoms
The little white cloud that keeps sinking has a swim bladder issue, likely genetic given it's happened to others. No cure for this, and it's pretty stressful for the fish, not being able to swim or stay buoyant like normal.
Re: Common fish illnesses and their symptoms
That's sad to hear about the swim bladder issue. I've had this problem with my golden white cloud minnows, and it's been going on for a year now. All the affected fish are over a year old, and they came from the same breeder. I've lost around 4 or 5 fish to this issue so far, and it's only the golden line that's affected, not the normal ones.
I'm curious, what triggers this issue to suddenly appear in a fish that was previously fine? Is it something that's been developing over time, or can it just happen out of the blue?

Re: Common fish illnesses and their symptoms
Old age and poor genetics, I'd say. These little guys don't live long, 4 to 5 years max, and that's in cold water. Keep them in tropical conditions like mine and they age faster, die sooner. The gold line I've got seems particularly affected, and I've lost a few already. If I were to cross breed them with the normal line, maybe the young would be healthier, less likely to have this issue.

Could a cold water change trigger this decline? I've always done cold changes in most of my tanks. Thursday, everything seemed normal, but after this morning's water change, I've got another gold minnow showing symptoms.
