Is my true percula pregnant?
Is my true percula pregnant?
I've got 2 true percula clownfish, one's noticeably bigger than the other - about half an inch larger. The bigger one's got this bulge below its fins, near the stomach area, and it's slightly dark inside. Ever since I noticed this bulge, the bigger one's been super aggressive to the smaller one. Both fish do this weird thing when they're next to each other - they start twitching or vibrating really fast, especially the bigger one. They just stare at each other and then start doing this weird motion. Not sure what's going on, so any help would be great, thanks!
Re: Is my true percula pregnant?
If the larger one is developing a clutch, the bulge will be temporary. Clownfish typically have a reproductive cycle of about a week, so they'll lay eggs, which will then hatch a week later, and another clutch will be laid shortly after. Normally, the male, which is often the smaller fish, and sometimes the female, will start cleaning the surrounding area in preparation for the eggs. For now, I'd just stick to your usual routine and wait to see how things develop.
Re: Is my true percula pregnant?
I get what you're saying, but it's just that the big one is being super violent towards the smaller one right now, I'm really worried he won't make it. They used to be fine, swimming together and sleeping next to each other, but since I noticed the bulge, she's become really aggressive and I'm not sure if the male will even get a chance to fertilize them, let alone clean the rock - he's getting tormented pretty badly.
