Gonipora spawning observations

Post by tiderip »

I'm pretty sure my Flowerpot Gonipora is developing eggs - I've noticed these tiny buds at the center of each head. Could these be eggs? Has anyone else seen this happen with their Gonipora? Unfortunately, I'm having trouble uploading photos from my Mac.

those aren't eggs, they're actually mini colonies that'll eventually break off and form new ones when the current takes them away in the wild. I've had this happen on mine before - I had two of them grow, popped them off after a bit, and attached them to a frag plug. ended up being some of the coolest frags I've ever owned, had around 7 stalks and did great for a while.

If you can manage it, post a pic of those "buds" - would really help get a positive ID on 'em.

They'll release new colonies. Pretty cool to see them do it.

I think my Flowerpot Gonipora might be expelling waste instead of forming eggs, maybe those tiny buds at the center of each head are just a sign of it getting rid of stuff. Anyone else ever see something like this?
