Hey everyone. I'm curious, does anyone here collect chalice corals and have a cool way of displaying them? I've recently added a few to my collection, but I'm having a hard time finding a display method that really showcases them.
I've seen some amazing coral gardens online, but they all seem to focus on other types of corals. I've only come across a few chalice displays, and to be honest, they're not that impressive. I mean, I've seen huge round plates just sitting on the bare bottom of the tank. There's even a Google image that shows exactly what I mean.
Has anyone else found a better way to display their chalice corals? I'm eager to hear your ideas and see some examples.

The middle one, orange with light blue rim, what is that?

I've got some rescue frags going, your pieces are stunning, really beautiful.

That garden could be stunning if it were fully grown in. I've always preferred a more natural approach, letting chalices follow the rockwork rather than using round plates.flame9x wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2025 12:37 pm Hey everyone. I'm not a fan of those flat plates either.

That's the Original Orenji. I'm a fan of letting them grow in the frag tank, you get an awesome top-down view. I've got a few in my display tank and I just let them grow on the rockwork like any other coral. It takes time, but trust me, it's worth the wait.

Chalices that naturally form plates or encrust live rock look incredibly impressive, much like their natural reef counterparts. Allowing them to grow this way brings out their unique beauty. Encrusting varieties also thrive on vertical locations, creating a visually appealing display. A large, colorful chalice is truly a sight to behold.
During the acclimation and grow-out period, a frag tank or frag rack in the display tank works well. I like the idea of elevating the chalice frags off the sand with a rock slab underneath, as seen in the OP's picture. This setup avoids direct contact with the sand, which is a good thing.
