keeping a short body jewel cichlid

I've got a fish and I'm trying to figure out its sex. Is there anyone here who can help me out with that?

From the appearance, I'd say it's probably male, but to be honest with you, it's a balloon fish and I wouldn't recommend breeding it. The reason being, it's been deliberately shortened, which can cause internal issues and stuffs up its guts.
