I'm setting up a low-tech planted discus aquarium and want a robust filtering system to keep everything thriving, especially with regular water changes. I have a 5ft sump and here's my plan:
Section 1 - Mechanical filter pad tower for trapping debris.
Section 2 - A large egg crate box filled with Seachem Pond Matrix for biological filtration, topped with two bags of Seachem Purigen for extra chemical filtration.
Section 3 - Thinking of creating a dense refugium using Anubias or a similar plant, but I'm unsure if this concept translates well from saltwater to freshwater.
Section 4 - Heaters and a removable filter floss insert for polishing the water when needed.
Section 5 - Twin return pumps feeding two separate spray bars for efficient water circulation.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this setup, particularly the refugium idea. Coming from a saltwater background, I'm curious to know if this concept works in freshwater. What are your experiences with sumps? What's worked for you, and what hasn't?

Might've misposted this in the wrong area. If a mod could shift this to filtration, I'd appreciate it. Cheers.
