I've just hatched some moina for my hengeli rasboras and I'm curious - if the live food is too small, will they even bother with it?
I've only just hatched them, so the moina are still really tiny, but I'm hoping they'll grow a bit bigger over the next little while.
Any thoughts or opinions would be great, thanks.
Is live food ever too small for your fish?

Hello bereb, I've never kept Rasboras but they do resemble my Tetras. Since they're small fish, I think they'll eat just about anything in the tank, including the tiny moina. Variety is key with feeding, but moderation is also important. Live foods are generally excellent for fish, so I'm sure your Rasboras will appreciate the live moina you're offering them.

I used to be in the same boat as you, bereb, wondering if live food could be too small for my fish. But then I stumbled upon an article that changed my mind - the author was feeding freshly hatched brine shrimp to adult tetras, and I thought, why not give it a shot? I tried it, and my fish just loved it. It's pretty simple, really - in the wild, fish will eat whatever they can find, so it makes sense that they'd do the same in our tanks. I think your hengeli rasboras will appreciate the live moina, even if they're tiny.

I think it's pretty clear that fish aren't picky eaters. I mean, we eat some tiny stuff too, right. Food is food, and if it's there, they'll probably eat it. Even us, we'll eat small stuff like sesame seeds or poppy seeds on our bread. It's all just food to them.

Thanks for the input, guys. Appreciate the reassurance. I've been feeding my rasboras two small meals daily - Oase organix micro granules in the morning and crushed bug bites for dinner, courtesy of my buddy Alex. Now I can start substituting some of those meals with live moina, which should be a nice treat for them.bereb wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 12:15 pm I've just hatched some moina for my hengeli rasboras and I'm curious - if the live food is too small, will they even bother with it?

That's a great start. I gave the rasboras a few of the newly hatched moina as a trial, and the ones they spotted were gobbled up instantly. The response was immediate, and I'm optimistic about incorporating live moina into their diet.infold wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 6:35 pm I used to be in the same boat as you, bereb, wondering if live food could be too small for my fish.
