I'm thinking of getting a Juwel Lido 200 for my Orinoco biotope, but it's on hold until I stop pulling out my eyelashes and eyebrows. I plan to stock the tank gradually and heavily, introducing new species after weeks of waiting. It'll be cardinal tetras first, then the new ones - rummy-nose and red phantom if I'm lucky. Since my bedroom and the rest of the home are cramped, a Juwel Lido 200 seems like the best bet. I need help experimenting with filtration and other stuff before setting up the tank. I know not to trust LFS advice, except for tanks like these. I've been wanting a biotope aquarium for ages, and this is my first attempt. I've researched the habitat of the three tetra species, as they're native to the Orinoco, and I might keep them in the future.
I've got a few questions about setting up the biotope. How do I simulate the Orinoco's seasonal changes without stressing the tetras? Will a tank of 65cm height, 71cm length, and 51cm diameter be enough for a small group of all three tetra species? How can I recreate a heavily vegetated section of the Orinoco River accurately? And do I really need a natural layer of biofilm to make my biotope more authentic?
