Is my fish suffering from swimming bladder disorder?

Post by dusker »

Hi everyone,

I'm getting a bit worried about my betta, Sir Henry. I've had him for around 3-4 years now, and over the past year, he's started swimming on his side from time to time. The first time it happened, I set up a separate tank with warmer water and didn't feed him for a few days. He eventually started eating again, pooped, and seemed back to normal. I figured it was a one-time thing, so I upgraded his food to a higher quality brand.

For about six months, everything seemed fine. But over the last month or so, the sideways swimming has started again. I've tried various things, but nothing seems to be working. He still eats normally, poops regularly, and gets excited when I approach his bowl. One thing I've noticed is that his color might be slightly faded, but that could just be my imagination.

I'm reaching out for some advice. Has anyone else dealt with something similar? Could this be a sign of swimming bladder disorder?

Hi, could you post a pic of Sir Henry for us? That way we can get a better idea of what's going on.
