Best Plants for a Betta Tank

Post by layla22 »

I'm setting up a 10 gallon betta tank and wanna add some plants. What's the best combo for low light and easy care? I've got sand substrate and a basic LED light, nothing fancy. Also, any tips to keep the betta from messing with the plants?

Anubias and Java Fern are solid choices for low light. They don't need much, just tie them to driftwood or rocks. Bettas usually leave them alone. If you want something for the substrate, try Cryptocoryne Wendtii. It's hardy and doesn't need strong light. Just avoid planting it too deep in the sand.

Yep, those are great. I'd also throw in some floating plants like Frogbit. Bettas love the cover, and it helps with water quality. Just watch out for too much shade if your light's weak.

I've had luck with Marimo moss balls in my betta tank. They're super low maintenance and my betta likes to push them around. Not sure if that counts as messing with them, but it's kinda cute. Just rinse them occasionally to keep 'em clean.

Thanks for the suggestions! Gonna grab some Anubias and Java Fern first. Maybe try the Frogbit later if the light can handle it. Appreciate the help, y'all.

One more thing, if you go with Cryptocoryne, don't freak out if the leaves melt at first. It's normal when they adjust to new water. Just trim the dead bits and it'll bounce back.

Yeah, moss balls are chill. Just make sure they're real Marimo. Some sellers fake 'em with other algae. Real ones should feel soft and velvety, not slimy.
